We ♥ Christmas – Tree #5

In Memory of Dorothy who died too young.

We ♥ Christmas Trees

Hi.  I’m Linda Wagner and the tree I’m donating this year is called ‘We Love Christmas Trees.’  Most of the ornaments you’ll see are shaped like Christmas trees.  I call it ‘WE’ love Christmas trees because ever since I started making trees for the Festival of Giving Trees, I’ve thought of this as a family effort.  I meet with my elderly mother, aunt, some cousins and a few friends several times during the year, starting in February!  We gather around the big table planning trees and making ornaments together.  I put on Christmas music in the background and we talk and laugh and create for hours.  Once a year we load my car and drive to Connecticut to meet on my cousin’s porch with our paper and scissors and hot glue!

I’ve been donating trees to the Festival of Giving Trees in Southbridge since 2011.  Before that I helped Ron Senecal and Lee Peirce with their tree donations, making ornaments, tree skirts and tree toppers.  Ron and Lee introduced me to this very worthy charity.  All of the monies collected each year are donated to cancer research and what could be more worthwhile?  My Dad died from cancer.  My mother-in-law died way too young from cancer.  My Grandma died from cancer.  Now my 88-year-old mother is fighting a good fight with cancer.  I don’t think I know anyone whose life has not been touched by cancer.  This is a small thing that we’re doing for a very good cause.

I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and all of the happiest holidays.  Stay safe and thank you for your generous donations.
